Inside the Knox Score: Eagles at Redskins

This really is a must win game for the Eagles or the season is could be lost. The Eagles come in after another huge letdown after gaining enough yards to put up 60 points. Luckily they’ve had a bye week to work on things and should get the coaching decisions and player’s ego under check this week. The problem was the turnovers. The line on this game opened at a pick em meaning no spread and has since moved to -3 for the road favorite Eagles. The over/under is holding steady at 47.5 meaning there has been some balance in the bets on the total. Last year Michael Vick set an all-time single game fantasy record with 73 points in a single game. This year’s Redskin’s defense is a stingy unit, but I believe doesn’t match up well with Philly.

Trends

Philly is 4-1 ATS coming off a bye week. The under is 13-3 in Philly’s last 16 games after a bye week, but they are 1-4 ATS against teams with a winning record. Washington is 5-0-1 in last 6 games as underdogs, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 against NFC East and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall. Also favorites after a bye week hit at 72% and higher at around 76% for road favorites

Eagles Offense vs Redskins Defense

Rather than mention the QB first, the key to this Eagles offense will most certainly be their banged up Offensive Line that has performed terribly this year after Juan Castillo was promoted to Defensive Coordinator.  The lack of protection has resulted in rushed decisions by Vick all season causing them to lose both the field position battles, squander repeated drives and in the end games. This week against the Skins tough defense they need to execute better blocking schemes and utilize McCoy more on pitches, draws and screens. Clearly they are moving the ball all day leading the league in rushing yards and 8th in the NFL in passing yards, but the turnovers have been awful for them. The Skins defense has some impressive stats but haven’t exactly played an offensive unit like this yet. They played a NYG team that clearly wasn’t ready and has no run game in week 1, a Cardinals team that isn’t very good during week 2 while Kolb was still trying to figure out schemes on offense, a Cowboys team with an injured QB toughing it out and no Miles Austin and a banged up Rams unit. Remember the shifty Felix Jones gave them problems with his speed in that Dallas game and the one thing this Eagle steam has is speed and then some.

Redskins Offense vs. Eagles Defense

This Eagles defense has a very athletic team, but like most beautiful things, no brains seem to follow. Can they slow down Hightower and Torain enough to pull this game out? Not sure if they can, but will they have to is the more appropriate question. If Philly gets the lead Rexsy will have to air it out and I don;t think he will have much success with that receiving corps against these d-backs. If they keep the game close, the ground and pound attack could cause Philly’s defense fits. If not expect the skilled defensive ends of Trent Cole and Jason Babin with an extra week to prepare for the Redskins offense to prevail. The Eagles linebackers haven’t shown up just yet and this may leave Fred Davis open for a big day and if he gets his catches the tackling challenged Eagles secondary will have problems with both he and Santana Moss.

Fantasy & Game Predictions

Yes I know these aren’t the same teams as last year, but I have a feeling we’re getting ready to watch a blow-out again. I think The Skins are overrated and have had a favorable schedule so far and the Eagles are just too fast for them. The shifty McCoy will get his 120 yds and a TD like Felix Jones did in week 3. Vick will have a controlled day of 21-29 for 2 TDS and Maclin and Jackson will be open often if Vick gets any space or time. The score early will dictate the style of play so I don’t expect the Skins to be able to pound the ball down Philly’s throats for mush of the game. Think 120 yards of rushing between Hightower and Torain and 220 for Rex with 2INTS. Samuel will get one this week and the bad Rex will show up again. Fred Davis has a big day though with 8 receptions for 80 yds and a TD.

Pick: Eagles win as 3 point road favorites 31-17 to go over the total and cover the spread.

I have to disagree man; I don’t think the Redskins are overrated too much and I also think the Eagles won’t figure things out this game.
